In Luxembourg, it is valid for 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the Energy Passport?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The energy performance certificate provides detailed information on a building&#8217;s calculated energy requirements and CO2 emissions. There are three main classifications included in the EPC:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Energy performance class (A+ to I): based on the building&#8217;s primary energy requirement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thermal insulation class: based on the building&#8217;s heating requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environmental performance class: based on the building&#8217;s CO2 emissions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Energy Passport Certificate (EPC) is mandatory in the following cases:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the construction of a residential building requiring planning permission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When extending a residential building.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each time the owner or tenant of an existing residential building changes, unless the building already has a valid energy performance certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exception:<\/strong> The EPC is not required if the sale is for demolition purposes, or in the event of a public sale by auction, seizure of property or public auction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Energy Classifications:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A+ (excellent performance):<\/strong> A+-rated buildings are the most energy-efficient. They consume very little energy for heating and cooling, and their CO2 emissions are minimal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>I (very poor performance):<\/strong> At the other extreme, I-rated buildings require a lot of energy to operate and have a high carbon footprint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is the EPC important?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Establishing an energy performance certificate is not only compulsory, it is also a valuable tool for :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Buyers and tenants:<\/strong> They can assess a building&#8217;s energy efficiency and estimate future energy costs. EPCs have gained in importance in recent years, particularly with banks when applying for a loan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Owners and investors:<\/strong> EPCs can influence the resale or rental value of a property. The STATEC has found that &#8220;a house in class A-B-C sells for 9.9% more on average than a house in class D-E-F.
